Yang Peng
Yang Peng, also known as Yang Mingpeng, with the courtesy name Wenbo and the pseudonyms Qindao Ren, Zixia Yunli, and Tianyue Shanren, is a guqin performer and calligrapher and painter, He is currently the principal guqin performer of the China-Japan Classical Music Ensemble, a member of the Guangdong Association of Young Calligraphers and Painters, and a director of the Guangdong Shunde Collectors Association. He previously served as a distinguished professor at Guangdong University of Science and Technology, a distinguished lecturer at the Confucius Institute of Tokyo Institute of Technology, and a cultural lecturer at the Confucius Institute of Sakura International University.

Painting Experience

Yun personally inscribed the following for him: “To Yang Peng, I wish you success,” as an encouragement to future students. During high school, due to his outstanding talent in painting, Yang was recognized by the Republic of China’s first female diplomat, Taiwan’sQiong Yao的AuntYuan XiaoyuanThe professor received him personally. Upon seeing his paintings, Mr. Yuan praised them highly, noting his natural talent for painting and predicting that he would surely achieve great things in the future and become a renowned painter. Overjoyed, he personally inscribed the following: “I hope that the next time I return to my homeland, I will see a renowned painter whose name is…”Yang Peng... Professor Cai Zhijian inscribed the following: “To Yang Peng: Dedicate your life to the cause of art—may this serve as an encouragement.”
He earned his bachelor’s degree from the Nanjing University of the Arts, majoring in Chinese painting. His instructor in flower-and-bird painting was Mr. Zhou Zhiqin, a disciple of Chen Dayu. His painting style is primarily ink-wash, and Yang was deeply influenced by him. In calligraphy, he has benefited from the guidance of Mr. Jin Dan and has gained a basic understanding of the art.
My Experience with the Guqin
In 1999, I visited SuzhouWumenA Leading Authority on Guqin Studies of the Second Generation of the Qin SchoolWu ZhaokiUnder his tutelage, I studied the guqin and was personally designated as the third-generation successor of the Wu School of Guqin. While studying in Japan, I also served as a lecturer at the Confucius Institute at Tokyo Institute of Technology,Sakura Meilin UniversityCultural Instructor at the Confucius Institute, andGuangdong University of Science and TechnologyHe holds several positions, including Distinguished Professor and Principal Guqin Performer of the Sino-Japanese Aoki Gakuen Music Ensemble. He has previouslyNerima Ward, TokyoSpecial guqin concerts were held at venues such as the Art Museum, the Okura Shikokan, Tokyo Sakura Morin University, and the Tokyo Institute of Technology, and were well-received byJapanIn addition to receiving an enthusiastic welcome from audiences, he has also held special guqin lectures and solo concerts in many parts of the country, all of which have been met with unanimous acclaim.
He has held solo guqin concerts at venues such as the Nerima Art Museum in Tokyo, the Okura Shukokan Museum, Sakura International University in Tokyo, and the Tokyo Institute of Technology, where he was warmly received by Japanese audiences. In addition, during his visits back to China, he has held solo guqin lectures and recitals in various locations across the country, all of which have been met with unanimous acclaim.
